Pop Art

Marilyn Monroe by Andy Warhol

Pop Art began in Britain in the mid 1950s. It looks at popular culture and "material culture". It used recognisable imagery like pictures of celebrities from popular media at the time and used bright, bold colours to create the art. I really like the Pop Art movement because of the bright colours and how interesting they look. I also like how they are made to look like something out of a comic book. I found it interesting how they just took a simple picture of Marilyn Monroe and Andy Warhol manipulated it in different ways by changing the colours to be something different and considered "odd" as they weren't supposed to be there and he made them really bold and vibrants which made the picture a lot more interesting and popular. These types of art are seen very commonly in homes in the present age because people love how fun and colourful they are and 1950s design is highly popular today.
